Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir has publicly urged Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to reject U.S. President Donald Trump’s push for de-escalation with Hezbollah, calling for immediate military action in Lebanon.

In a strongly worded message to Netanyahu, Ben-Gvir invoked the prime minister’s own principle on relations with Washington, writing, “You said that a strong prime minister tells the President of the United States ‘yes’ when possible, and ‘no’ when necessary. This is the time to tell our friend, President Trump, ‘no’.”

The minister argued that Israel should intensify military operations against Hezbollah, saying the time had come to “do what is required and necessary to strike Hezbollah, free the hands of our fighters, and restore security to the north.”

Ben-Gvir’s remarks came shortly after Trump announced that he had spoken with Netanyahu and claimed efforts were underway to prevent further escalation between Israel and Hezbollah.

Earlier, Trump wrote on Truth Social that he had a “very productive” call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and claimed that there would be no Israeli troops going to Beirut, with any forces already en route having been turned back. Trump also said that, through highly placed representatives, he had spoken with Hezbollah and that both sides had agreed to stop all shooting, with Israel not attacking Hezbollah and Hezbollah not attacking Israel. He presented the development as a breakthrough aimed at preventing further escalation between the two sides.

By openly challenging Trump’s position, Ben-Gvir has intensified pressure on Netanyahu from within his governing coalition, underscoring demands from hardline factions for a more aggressive military response against Hezbollah.

Shortly after Ben-Gvir’s statement, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu posted on X, saying, “Tonight, I spoke with President Trump and told him that if Hezbollah does not cease attacking our cities and citizens—Israel will attack terror targets in Beirut.”

He stressed that Israel’s stance “remains unchanged” and added that the IDF will continue its planned operations in southern Lebanon.
