The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced that a strike has eliminated Izz al-Din al-Haddad, the head of Hamas’ military wing and one of the last remaining senior commanders involved in the planning of the October 7 attacks.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the IDF said that al-Haddad assumed his leadership role following the elimination of Mohammed Sinwar. The IDF said he subsequently worked to rebuild Hamas’ operational capabilities and planned numerous attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops.

Furthermore, the IDF said that throughout the war, al-Haddad was directly involved in managing Hamas’ hostage captivity system. The IDF said he was responsible for holding many Israeli hostages in captivity and deliberately surrounded himself with them in an attempt to prevent his elimination.
