Kuwait condemned what it described as Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting its territory, calling the strikes a dangerous escalation and a violation of its sovereignty, according to a statement issued by the foreign ministry on Thursday.
The ministry said the attacks threatened civilians and vital infrastructure and came despite efforts by regional and international partners to reduce tensions and avoid further escalation in the region.
Kuwait urged Iran to immediately halt what it called “criminal attacks” and said Tehran bore full responsibility for the incidents, which it said violated international law, the U.N. Charter and U.N. Security Council Resolution 2817 of 2026.
The foreign ministry said Kuwait reserved the right to take all necessary measures to protect its security, territory and vital facilities, citing the country’s right to self-defense under Article 51 of the U.N. Charter.
Earlier, Kuwait’s armed forces said air defense systems had intercepted hostile missiles and drones over the country.
