Kuwait on Tuesday accused an armed group linked to elements of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of Iran of infiltrating Bubiyan Island with the aim of carrying out hostile acts against the State of Kuwait, according to a statement issued by the Kuwaiti Foreign Ministry.
The ministry said the armed group engaged with Kuwaiti Armed Forces personnel before being apprehended, resulting in injuries to one member of the Kuwaiti Armed Forces.
The statement strongly condemned and denounced what Kuwait described as unlawful hostile acts threatening the security and stability of the region and undermining regional and international efforts aimed at de-escalation.
The statement read, “While reaffirming the State of Kuwait’s historic and steadfast commitment to the principles of good neighborliness and rejecting the use of its territory and airspace to launch hostile acts against any state, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stressed that the hostile acts carried out by Iran constitute a flagrant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, a grave breach of international law and the United Nations Charter, and a brazen challenge to the international will and United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817.”
It further stated that Iran “bears full responsibility for these hostile acts,” adding that Kuwait reserves its inherent right to self-defense under Article 51 of the UN Charter and may take measures it deems appropriate to protect its sovereignty, people and residents on its territories in accordance with international law.
Iran Rejects Kuwait’s Allegations as “Baseless and Unacceptable”
According to Iranian state media, Iran’s Foreign Ministry strongly rejected Kuwait’s allegations that Tehran was planning hostile measures against Kuwait, calling the claims “totally baseless and unacceptable.”
