Foreign ministers from 14 Arab and Islamic countries on Sunday condemned Somaliland’s reported opening of what they described as a purported embassy in Jerusalem, calling the move “illegal and unacceptable.”
In a joint statement, the countries said the step violated international law and United Nations resolutions concerning the status of Jerusalem.
The statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Türkiye, Pakistan, Indonesia, Djibouti, Somalia, Palestine, Oman, Sudan, Yemen and Lebanon.
The ministers said they “categorically reject” any unilateral actions aimed at changing the legal and historical status of occupied Jerusalem or giving legitimacy to arrangements that contradict international law.
They reiterated that East Jerusalem has been occupied Palestinian territory since 1967 and said any attempt to alter its status would be considered “null and void.”
The countries also expressed support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Somalia, rejecting any unilateral measures that could undermine Somali unity.
