Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he spoke with US President Donald Trump about efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and upcoming negotiations aimed at reaching a final agreement on Iran’s nuclear program.

In a statement released on Sunday, Netanyahu said both leaders agreed that any future agreement with Iran must remove the nuclear threat completely, including by dismantling Iran’s uranium enrichment facilities and removing enriched nuclear material from Iranian territory.

He claimed that Trump also reaffirmed Israel’s right to defend itself against threats across the region, including from Lebanon.

“The partnership between our two countries has never been stronger,” Netanyahu said, while reiterating that Iran “will not have nuclear weapons.”
