U.S. President Donald J. Trump has sharply criticized the House of Representatives after lawmakers approved a bipartisan war powers resolution seeking to restrict his authority to engage U.S. forces in hostilities against Iran without congressional approval.
In a post on Truth Social on Thursday, Trump described the House vote as “meaningless” and accused Democrats and four Republican lawmakers who supported the measure of undermining his administration while negotiations with Iran remain ongoing.
“Yesterday, in a meaningless vote, the House voted, 4 bad Republicans and all of the Dumocrats, to limit my War Powers, right in the middle of my final negotiations to end the War with the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Trump wrote.
Questioning the timing of the move, Trump said lawmakers were aware of the status of diplomatic efforts and accused Democrats of being motivated by “Trump Derangement Syndrome.”

“They would rather have our Country fail than give me another, of many, victories,” he said, adding that the four Republicans who joined Democrats in supporting the resolution were “GRANDSTANDERS” and “should be ashamed of themselves.”
The House on Wednesday passed the resolution by a vote of 215-208, directing the President to withdraw U.S. forces from hostilities involving Iran unless Congress specifically authorizes military action.
The measure was co-sponsored by Maggie Goodlander, a Democratic congresswoman and Navy veteran, who said the vote was aimed at reinforcing Congress’ constitutional role in decisions related to war.
“We did a good thing for our Constitution and our country today,” Goodlander said following the vote. “Congress sent a very simple and unequivocal message to the Commander in Chief: if you are going to take America to war, you have to make your case to the American people and you have to get congressional authorization.”
