U.S. President Donald J. Trump said Iran must agree never to obtain a nuclear weapon and called for the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz to unrestricted shipping traffic.

In a statement on Friday, Trump said all naval mines in the strategic waterway should be removed or destroyed, adding that U.S. forces had already detonated several mines using underwater mine sweepers.

Trump said ships stranded in the strait due to what he described as a U.S. naval blockade could begin “heading home” as the blockade would now be lifted.

He also said enriched nuclear material buried underground following a U.S. B-2 bomber strike 11 months ago would be excavated and destroyed by the United States in coordination with Iran and the International Atomic Energy Agency.

Trump said no money would be exchanged “until further notice” and added that “other items, of far less importance,” had also been agreed upon. He said he would meet in the Situation Room to make a final determination.

Tehran Rejects Trump Narrative On Potential US-Iran Agreement

Separately, Iranian media rejected Trump’s claims about a potential agreement with Tehran, describing his remarks as “a mixture of truth and lies” and an attempt to portray a “fabricated victory.”
