The Middle East is on a knife-edge today following a sharp escalation in rhetoric between Tehran and Washington. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf issued a stern warning to the United States, declaring that Iran’s armed forces are at peak readiness to deliver a “well-deserved response” to any act of aggression.
Ghalibaf’s comments appear to be a direct reaction to the ongoing U.S. naval blockade and recent maritime skirmishes in the Gulf of Oman.
“Our armed forces are ready to deliver a well-deserved response to any aggression; mistaken strategy and mistaken decisions will always lead to mistaken results—the whole world has already figured this out,” Ghalibaf stated. “We are prepared for all options; they will be surprised”, he added.
His remarks came after U.S. President Donald J Trump rejected Iran’s latest diplomatic proposal as “totally unacceptable,” amid ongoing tensions between the two countries.
President Trump has reportedly called an emergency meeting with his national security team and top military brass at the White House.
