Venezuela’s government said the death toll from last month’s twin earthquakes has risen to 3,535, while 16,740 people have been injured, according to an official situation report released on Monday.
The report, issued by the Venezuelan government, said rescue teams had pulled 6,462 people from affected areas since the earthquakes struck.
Authorities said assistance had been provided to 86,794 families, while 17,854 people remained without homes. The government added that 856 buildings had been damaged, including 190 that had collapsed.
The latest official update said emergency responders had distributed 9,603 tonnes of food and more than 8.13 million litres of drinking water to affected communities. Medical teams had treated 25,016 patients, according to the report.
The government said 29,567 personnel, supported by 27,930 volunteers and 4,338 international rescue workers, were taking part in relief operations. It added that 82 temporary camps had been established to shelter displaced residents.
Venezuela had declared a nationwide state of emergency following two powerful earthquakes measuring 7.2 and 7.5 in magnitude, which struck within seconds of each other on the evening of June 24.
Officials also reported that 1,048 aftershocks had been recorded since the twin earthquakes.
