Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Wednesday accused Kuwait of unlawfully attacking an Iranian boat and detaining four Iranian citizens in the Persian Gulf, describing the incident as a deliberate attempt to create tensions.
“In a clear attempt to sow discord, Kuwait has unlawfully attacked an Iranian boat and detained four of our citizens in the Persian Gulf,” Araghchi wrote in a post on X. He said the incident took place near an island he claimed was used by the United States to launch attacks against Iran.
Araghchi demanded the “immediate release” of the detained Iranian nationals and said Tehran “reserves the right to respond.”
The statement came a day after Kuwait accused an armed group linked to elements of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps of infiltrating Bubiyan Island with the aim of carrying out hostile acts against the Kuwaiti state.
Iranian state media later reported that Tehran strongly rejected Kuwait’s allegations, with Iran’s Foreign Ministry calling the accusations “totally baseless and unacceptable” and denying any plans to undertake hostile actions against Kuwait.
