Qatar Says Air Defenses Intercept Missiles, Drones and Aircraft Linked to Iran

The Qatar Ministry of Defense announced on Monday that the country’s air defenses intercepted multiple aerial threats allegedly originating from Iran, including aircraft, ballistic missiles and drones.

According to an official statement issued from Doha by the ministry’s Directorate of Morale Guidance, the Qatar Emiri Air Force shot down two Su-24 aircraft approaching Qatari airspace. The ministry also reported that air defense systems intercepted seven ballistic missiles before they reached their intended targets.

In addition, five drones were reportedly destroyed through a joint operation conducted by the Qatar Emiri Air Force and the Qatar Emiri Navy, after they allegedly attempted to strike several areas across the country.

Officials stated that the threats were detected and neutralized immediately in line with operational defense plans. The ministry emphasized that all incoming projectiles were intercepted before reaching any targets, preventing damage or casualties.

The statement further highlighted that the Qatar Armed Forces possess the capabilities and readiness required to protect the nation’s sovereignty and respond decisively to external threats.

Authorities also urged citizens, residents and visitors to remain calm, follow instructions from security agencies, and rely only on official government channels for accurate information while avoiding the spread of rumors.

Drone Attack Targets Energy Facilities

Earlier, two drones launched from Iran targeted locations inside Qatar, striking facilities linked to the country’s energy infrastructure.

According to the ministry’s statement, one drone hit a water tank at a power plant in Mesaieed, while another targeted an energy facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City, a major industrial hub operated by QatarEnergy.

Officials confirmed that no human casualties were reported following the attack. Authorities are currently assessing the extent of damage and financial losses, with further details expected in an official update.

The ministry urged citizens, residents, and visitors to remain calm, follow instructions from security authorities, and rely only on official government channels for accurate information, warning against the spread of rumors.
