At least 13 people were killed and 66 others injured after a technical malfunction at a factory in Qatar’s Ras Laffan Industrial City, authorities said on Monday.
According to Qatar’s Ministry of Interior, the incident occurred during operations at the industrial facility and involved workers of multiple nationalities. Emergency response teams were immediately deployed to the site, and all injured persons were transported for medical treatment.
The ministry said search and rescue operations have been completed and confirmed that no hazardous leak or environmental threat resulted from the accident. Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the exact technical causes of the incident.
Later, the Embassy of India in Doha said Qatari authorities had confirmed that 12 of the 13 people killed were Indian nationals.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls,” the embassy said in a statement.
The mission added that all injured individuals are in stable condition and receiving appropriate medical treatment.
The Indian Embassy said it is working closely with Qatari authorities to provide assistance to affected families and to facilitate the repatriation of the mortal remains of the deceased at the earliest.
The accident occurred in Ras Laffan Industrial City, one of the world’s largest industrial hubs for liquefied natural gas production and related energy industries.
Qatari authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased or provided further details about the factory where the incident occurred.
