Russian President Vladimir Putin has sent a message of deep condolence to Indian President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi following a devastating “cyclonic storm” that struck parts of Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, May 13.
The official message, shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, expressed solidarity with India during the crisis: “Please accept my deepest condolences over the heavy loss of life and large-scale destruction caused by the cyclone in Uttar Pradesh. Please convey my words of sympathy and support to the families and loved ones of those who perished, as well as wishes for a speedy recovery to all those injured as a result of this natural disaster.”
The powerful storm caused widespread destruction across several districts. The death toll has risen to at least 100, with more than 70 others injured, according to local media reports. Numerous trees and electricity poles were uprooted, triggering large-scale power outages, while several homes were damaged and livestock losses were also reported.

During the storm in Bareilly, a man named Nanhe Miyan became the subject of a viral video after being flung into the air. In an attempt to stop a large tin shed from being blown away, he reportedly grabbed a rope tied to the structure to weigh it down. However, a strong gust of wind lifted the tin sheet like a sail, carrying him an estimated 50 feet high into the air. He later fell into a muddy field, which reportedly saved his life, though he suffered serious injuries.
