In a sharp rebuke of Washington’s approach, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said that “honoring commitments is the basis of meaningful dialogue,” criticizing the United States for what he described as a contradictory and non-constructive stance in recent days.
In a statement posted on social media, Pezeshkian said that alongside deep historical mistrust in Iran toward the past conduct and performance of the U.S. government, the recent non-constructive and contradictory approach of American officials carries a “bitter message” that they are seeking Iran’s surrender.
He added that the Iranian people “will not submit to coercion,” underscoring Tehran’s position against pressure in its engagement with Washington.
Iran’s Parliament Speaker MB Ghalibaf said in a post on X that Donald Trump, by imposing a siege and violating a ceasefire, is attempting to turn negotiations into what he described as a “table of surrender” or justify renewed conflict. He added that Iran does not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats and said the country has prepared to unveil “new cards on the battlefield” in recent weeks.
Current Ceasefire to Expire April 22
As of today, Tehran has not confirmed its participation in the upcoming round of talks in Islamabad, insisting that Washington must first prove its sincerity through actions rather than contradictory signals.
With the current ceasefire set to expire on April 22, the world remains on high alert as both nations balance the prospect of renewed conflict against the fragile hope of a diplomatic breakthrough.
