Israeli Air Force targeted military sites in Iran hours after Tehran fired missiles toward Israel in the first direct attack since the April ceasefire.

Israel launched airstrikes against military targets in central and western Iran on Monday, hours after Iran fired missiles toward Israel in a major escalation that threatened a fragile ceasefire reached in April.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its air force carried out strikes on military targets inside Iran following Sunday’s missile attack. Iranian state media reported explosions in several cities, including Tehran, Isfahan and Tabriz.

The strikes marked Israel’s first reported attack on Iran since the April 8 ceasefire and came after Iran launched multiple missiles toward Israel, claiming the attack was in response to Israeli actions in Lebanon.

Earlier, Iran’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement issued on June 7 local time in Iran that its missile strikes were carried out under the country’s right to self-defence and were a response to what it described as repeated violations of the ceasefire and ongoing Israeli actions against Lebanon and Iranian interests.

The exchange of fire has raised fears of a broader regional conflict, with both sides warning of further action. Iran has also imposed restrictions on parts of its airspace following the latest developments.
