The French Ministry of Health, Families, Autonomy and Persons with Disabilities has confirmed the detection of a first case of Ebola virus disease on national territory.

The patient, a humanitarian doctor who recently returned from a mission in an Ebola-affected area of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), tested positive after arrival. Authorities say the individual was promptly admitted to a specialized treatment facility and is currently in stable condition.

Health officials have initiated standard containment and contact-tracing procedures as a precautionary measure.
