A major diplomatic crisis is unfolding following an interception by Israeli naval forces in international waters.

A coalition of ten nations comprising Spain, Türkiye, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Libya, Maldives, Pakistan and Bangladesh has issued a joint statement strongly condemning Israeli military actions against the Global Sumud Flotilla.

The ministers described the convoy as “a peaceful civilian humanitarian initiative aimed at drawing international attention to the catastrophic humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.”

In the statement, the ministers expressed grave concern over Israeli interventions against previous flotillas in international waters and denounced what they called continued hostile acts targeting civilian vessels and humanitarian activists. They said attacks on the vessels and the arbitrary detention of activists constituted violations of international law and international humanitarian law.

The ministers also voiced concern for the safety and security of the flotilla’s civilian participants and called for the immediate release of all detained activists, along with full respect for their rights and dignity.

They further said repeated attacks on peaceful humanitarian initiatives reflected a continued disregard for international law and freedom of navigation, urging the international community to take concrete steps to protect civilians and humanitarian missions, end impunity and ensure accountability.
