U.S. President Donald J. Trump claimed that Iran has taken “shots” at vessels linked to “Project Freedom,” including a South Korean cargo ship, amid rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed U.S. forces had shot down seven small boats, described as “fast boats,” and added that no damage has been reported to ships transiting the Strait so far, apart from the South Korean vessel mentioned.
He also suggested that South Korea should consider joining the mission, signaling a potential widening of international involvement.
Trump further said U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Dan Caine will hold a news conference on the situation.
The remarks come amid escalating tensions in the Gulf region, with increased military activity and concerns over the security of key global shipping routes.
