The United States Department of State said nearly 24,000 American citizens have safely returned to the United States from the Middle East since February 28.

According to the department, the figure does not include Americans who have relocated to other countries or those who have already left the Middle East but are still in transit back to the United States.

The department said it has been proactively contacting American citizens in the region to offer charter flight and ground transportation assistance. Several flights have already returned hundreds of Americans to the United States, with additional flights expected in the coming days as security conditions allow.

Officials said commercial flight availability across the region is gradually improving, with commercial travel options now available in most parts of the Middle East.

American citizens in Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Israel who require travel assistance have been advised to complete the Crisis Intake Form to receive information about upcoming charter aviation and ground transportation options.

Through its 24/7 Task Force, the State Department said it has directly assisted nearly 13,000 Americans abroad by providing security guidance and travel assistance.

The department said it will continue assisting any American citizen who wishes to depart the Middle East and urged those needing help to contact the State Department’s 24/7 helpline at +1-202-501-4444.
