EC Revokes Resolution Seeking Excommunication of Narain Singh Chaura from the Panth
Time of investigation panel extended by one month in case of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh
Amritsar, December 31: The Executive Committee (EC) of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has strongly condemned the recent police encounter in Uttar Pradesh that led to the killing of three youths from Punjab, terming it a serious and suspicious incident. Presiding over the meeting, SGPC President Advocate Harjinder Singh Dhami demanded a judicial inquiry to uncover the truth behind the encounter, which the committee believes may have been a targeted act against the state’s youth.
In a resolution passed during the meeting, the SGPC expressed grave concern over the incident. The resolution described the matter as highly concerning and suggested it appeared to be a deliberate attempt to target Punjab’s youth. The Executive Committee strongly demanded a judicial inquiry into the encounter.
Additionally, the EC has also rejected its resolution from its December 9 meeting that had called for the excommunication of Narain Singh Chaura from the Panth, signalling a significant reversal in its stance. Earlier, the proposal to excommunicate Chaura had sparked controversy.
Today, the EC also passed a resolution to extend the term of the investigation panel formed in the matter of Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh during the EC meeting dated December 19 by one month, in view of the elections for the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee. This resolution also expressed the commitment that the investigation into the matter related to Giani Harpreet Singh will be completely impartial, as mentioned in the press release issued by the SGPC.
In the EC meeting, a condolence resolution was also passed on the demise of the former Prime Minister of India, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and tributes were paid to him by reciting the Mool Mantar and Gurmantar.
The EC also overturned a resolution from its earlier meeting on December 9, which had called on Sri Akal Takht Sahib to excommunicate Narain Singh Chaura from the Panth. Additionally, today’s EC passed a resolution to extend the term of the investigation panel formed in connection with Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh during the EC meeting on December 19 by one month, considering the elections for the Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee.
