Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha (Joint Teachers Front) Punjab says teachers across Punjab to participate in the rally to challenge Punjab Education Minister’s decisions

Ludhiana: On December 1, a protest rally will be held by the Sanjha Adhyapak Morcha (Joint Teachers Front) Punjab in the village of Gambhirpur of Punjab. The Government School Teachers Union of Punjab has announced its large-scale participation in this rally that is to be organised in the village of Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains. Their protest would be against the alleged anti-education policies of the state government.

The union members said this decision was made during a virtual meeting led by the state president of the group, Surinder Kumar. The meeting was attended by Union leaders including Charan Singh Sarabha, Sukhjinder Singh Khanpur, Parveen Kumar Ludhiana, Gurpreet Singh and others.

The leaders emphasized that despite repeated requests made on behalf of the teachers to the Education Minister, there has been no serious effort to resolve the issues concerning the teachers. As a result, there is growing frustration among teachers.

They said that main demands of the teachers include:

  • Repealing the new National Education Policy 2020, which is considered anti-education and anti-teacher.
  • Ending the harassment under the name of different tests.
  • Ensuring timely promotions for various categories of teachers.
  • Implementation of the Old Pension Scheme and releasing DA installments.
  • Merging computer teachers into the education department.
  • Relief from non-educational tasks and addressing other pressing demands.

During the meeting, it was also discussed that teachers should only be responsible for teaching according to the syllabus, and unnecessary additional duties imposed on them should be stopped.

The Government School Teachers Union of Punjab has appealed to all teachers to join the rally on December 1 in large numbers to oppose the Punjab Government’s anti-teacher and anti-education policies.
