A speaker addressing the protest rally at EWS Colony in Ludhiana

December 9: In observance of the International Human Rights Day, a protest rally was organized by various unions, including the Textile-Hosiery Workers Union, Factory Workers Union, and the Young India Sabha, at the Workers Library (EWS Colony, Tajpur Road) in Ludhiana.

Jagdish Singh, President of the Textile-Hosiery Workers Union, provided this information.

During the rally, Lakhvinder, President of the a workers union, and Advocate Diljot Sharma addressed the gathering. The speakers alleged that the central government and state governments have continuously been undermining the democratic and constitutional rights of the people, paving the way for increased profits for capitalists and allowing unchecked exploitation. As a result, the most significant impact has been on the working class, particularly laborers and farmers, they alleged.

“Recently, four new labor codes were introduced after amending old labor laws, which are designed to severely curtail the rights of workers. Similarly, under the pretext of amending British-era criminal laws, new laws have been introduced that are even more oppressive and anti-people than their predecessors. These laws aim to suppress people’s democratic rights to protest, express grievances, and demand justice”, they alleged.

The speakers emphasized that all justice-loving individuals, workers, and farmers should oppose these repressive laws and raise their voices for their rightful demands on the occasion of Human Rights Day.

The protest also included resolutions condemning the U.S. imperialist actions in Palestine, and the creation of religious conflicts. The rally also opposed the repression of peaceful farmer protests.
