“Insult to Dr. Ambedkar Will Not Be Tolerated” – DP Maur
Ludhiana, December 30: A protest was organised in Ludhiana today by left parties against Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s allegedly derogatory remarks about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the architect of the Indian Constitution. The protesters demanded Amit Shah’s immediate resignation.
Addressing the gathering, CPI District Secretary DP Maur and CPM District Secretary Baljit Singh Sahi criticised the remarks. They alleged that such remarks reveal the regressive mindset of the ruling party in the country.
The leaders demanded legal action against Amit Shah for his comments on Dr. Ambedkar. They emphasised Dr. Ambedkar’s immense contribution to drafting the Constitution, which provided oppressed communities with an opportunity for upliftment and equality.
They further accused the central government led by BJP of systematically weakening constitutional safeguards meant to protect the rights of minorities, Dalits, and the working class. “Insulting Dr. Ambedkar is equivalent to insulting the Constitution itself,” the leaders alleged. They alleged that the Modi government aims to alter the Constitution, which guarantees social justice, secularism, and equality in the country.
The protest was jointly organised as part of a nationwide call by the Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist), and CPI (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation. Maur said, “Protesters pledged to continue their campaign against Amit Shah and expose RSS’s anti-people and corporate-friendly agenda.”
Prominent attendees included Kevil Singh Banwait, Devraj, Vijay Kumar, Samar Bahadur, Naresh Gaur, Kameshwar Yadav, Dr. Gurpreet Singh Ratan, Dan Singh, Satnam Singh, Dr. SK Nagesh, and Ram Chand.
During the protest, participants raised slogans against the Modi government, calling for accountability and justice.
