Directions issued to expedite projects to establish biogas plants and to ensure proper functioning of dyeing industry CETPs and STPs
Ludhiana, January 2: Local Bodies Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh, along with Rajya Sabha MP Balbir Singh Seechewal, visited the site near Gaushala point of Buddha Dariya on Thursday to inspect the ongoing work on a temporary pumping station.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Jitendra Jorwal, MC Commissioner Aaditya Dachalwal, ADC Rohit Gupta, MC Additional Commissioner Paramdeep Singh among other officials of the civic body and Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) were present during the inspection.
The officials said that the temporary pumping station is part of the ‘Kar Sewa’ initiative started by MP Seechewal to clean Buddha Dariya. The goal is to pump sewage waste from Gaushala point to the Jamalpur STP until a permanent Intermediate Pumping Station (IPS) can be built at the site. The construction of the permanent IPS is delayed due to an ongoing court case. During the visit, Dr. Ravjot Singh discussed ways to speed up the process.
Dr. Singh also instructed PPCB and civic body officials to ensure that cow dung and industrial waste are not dumped into Buddha Dariya. He directed them to speed up the work on biogas plants at Haibowal and Tajpur Road dairy complexes, where cow dung will be used to generate biogas. In the meantime, temporary arrangements will be made to remove cow dung from dairy units and dispose of it at designated locations.
Dr. Singh praised the efforts under MP Seechewal’s ‘Kar Sewa’ initiative and reiterated the commitment of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government to clean Buddha Dariya. He emphasised that the temporary pumping station will help reduce pollution by ensuring that sewage is treated properly at the Jamalpur STP before it enters the river. Dr. Singh assured that all necessary measures are being taken to tackle pollution in Buddha Dariya, with strict instructions given to the concerned departments.
