Flood Gate Installation and Sewer Line Upgrades Urged in Ward No. 81
Ludhiana, December 30: Newly elected Councillor Manju Agarwal, along with former Councillor Inder Agarwal, met Municipal Commissioner Aditya Dachalwal to discuss pending development works in Ward No. 81. They presented two memorandums highlighting the issues faced by the residents and requested immediate action.
During the meeting, Councillor Agarwal pointed out that the project to cover the drain from Shingar Cinema Road Bridge to Cremation Ground Bridge has been inaugurated 3-4 times since December 2021 but has yet to commence. She urged the Commissioner to start the work without further delay.
Agarwal also raised concerns about the frequent overflow of major sewer lines passing through Jamalpur to Shingar Cinema Road due to increased population in the area. This has caused significant sewerage issues in Ward No. 81. She emphasized that the current disposal systems are insufficient and makeshift, calling for the immediate resumption of work on the Intermediate Pumping Station near the cremation ground, which has been stalled for the past two years.
Highlighting the impact of last year’s heavy rains, Agarwal noted that the overflow of dirty water from the Buddha Nullah caused extensive damage in the area. To prevent a recurrence, she urged the installation of a proposed flood gate before the upcoming monsoon season.
Additionally, she pointed out that while covering the Shivaji Nagar drain, adjoining streets were left significantly lower than the road level. These streets need to be upgraded, and direct sewer pipelines should be laid from 3-4 locations to prevent waterlogging in these streets during the rainy season.
