A hearing regarding pollution in Buddha Dariya (Buddha Nullah) and the Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) of dyeing industries in Ludhiana was conducted by the National Green Tribunal (NGT). The NGT has instructed the Punjab Pollution Control Board (PPCB) to submit an affidavit.

Providing an update on the matter, Jaskirat Singh, a member of PAC & Kale Pani Da Morcha who filed the case against the pollution in Buddha Dariya, stated, “According to the NGT, the CETPs do not have an unconditional stay against coercive action; it is a conditional stay.”

He accused the PPCB of misinterpreting the order. He said that the PPCB cannot authorize the discharge of effluent into Buddha Dariya, as it violates the Environment Clearance.

He further mentioned that the NGT has directed the Member Secretary of PPCB to file an affidavit explaining how they have been allowing this. The next hearing date has been moved from March 20 to December 23 due to “blatant violations and misinterpretations,” he added.
