Amid the escalating tensions in West Asia, Iran’s President Dr Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran will not carry out attacks against neighbouring countries unless provoked from their territory, in a televised message addressing the nation and the region.
Speaking directly to the people of Iran and neighbouring nations, President Pezeshkian said: “The Interim Leadership Council has instructed that no attacks will be carried out against neighbouring countries unless an attack is launched against us from their territory. We apologise to neighbours affected during our responses to enemy aggression.”
He also added: “Those who claim to champion freedom and human rights have violated international law and bombed wherever they wished, including hospitals and schools.”
President Pezeshkian further warned that neighbouring countries and groups considering taking advantage of this situation to attack Iran should refrain from doing so, cautioning against becoming “tools of imperialism.”
On 28 February, the United States and Israel carried out coordinated attacks on Iran, targeting key military installations and leadership sites. Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, was killed in the attacks, according to Iranian state media.
In response, Iran launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes against Israeli and U.S. military bases, as well as other strategic targets across the Gulf region.
