Amid the escalating Middle East crisis, President of France Emmanuel Macron called for urgent diplomatic efforts to secure a “solid and lasting” resolution, saying no effort should be spared to restore stability in the region.

Macron said any agreement must establish a robust framework enabling all parties to live in peace and security, while addressing key issues including Iran’s nuclear and ballistic programmes as well as its regional activities.

He also stressed the need to quickly restore free and unhindered navigation in the Strait of Hormuz and called for Lebanon to return to a path of peace with full respect for its sovereignty and territorial integrity.

France, he said, stands ready to play its full role in resolving the crisis, as it has done since the outset of the conflict.

On maritime security, Macron announced that France, along with United Kingdom, would soon organise a conference with partner nations to support a peaceful multinational mission aimed at restoring navigation in the strait, adding that the proposed deployment would be strictly defensive and separate from ongoing hostilities.
